Any of the TACN channels might use encryption at any time! At any time during a conversation, if the dispatcher or officer/fireman feel the need, they can turn on encryption. Usually, it is only temporary and the channel will return to normal when they are done with their sensitive traffic. This is all done on their end and it is impossible (not to mention unlawful) for any scanner to decrypt these communications. You may hear one sided conversations, conversations abruptly ending, or weird noises (The scanner attempts to mute encrypted communications but you may still hear it at random times.)
