WXJ37 WEATHER RADIO — HURRICANE POLO IMPACT STATEMENT

Hurricane Polo is expected to impact portions of the WXJ37 listening area from late Sunday through Wednesday, September 27–30.

Residents across San Juan County, New Mexico, and the Four Corners region should be prepared for the potential for periods of heavy rainfall and locally hazardous weather as moisture associated with Hurricane Polo moves into the region. The National Weather Service will issue and update watches, warnings, and advisories as conditions warrant.

A Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) has been designated for portions of San Juan County, New Mexico, including Farmington, Aztec, and Bloomfield, indicating the potential for significant weather impacts.

The threat area also extends into southwestern Colorado, including La Plata County and Archuleta County, with communities including Durango, Ignacio, Bayfield, and Pagosa Springs potentially affected.

WXJ37 will serve as the primary online weather-radio source for the Farmington and Four Corners area, providing important weather information, including National Weather Service watches, warnings, and advisories, throughout this weather event.

Residents should not rely solely on WXJ37 for emergency weather information. In the event that the WXJ37 online stream becomes unavailable or goes offline, KWN54 may serve as an additional backup source.

Availability of online weather-radio streams is dependent on the individual stream provider and cannot be guaranteed during an emergency. If WXJ37 becomes unavailable, residents should use other available sources, including KWN54 where available, NOAA Weather Radio from another nearby transmitter, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), local television and radio stations, official National Weather Service updates, and trusted weather applications or services.

Keep multiple methods available to receive weather warnings. If one source becomes unavailable, switch to another available source for the latest information.

Stay weather-aware and be prepared to take action should watches, warnings, or other hazardous-weather alerts be issued for your area.

NOAA Weather Radio Station WXJ37 broadcasts on a Frequency of 162.475 MHz and provides continuous weather information to Northwestern New Mexico and Extreme Southwestern Colorado. This station’s programming originates from the National Weather Service office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A Required Weekly Test (RWT) of the weather radio is conducted every Wednesday between 11:30 AM and 11:35 AM Mountain Time, unless there is an imminent hazardous weather threat in the Albuquerque Weather Forecast Office area. When this happens the test is then post poned for the next fair weather day.

Weather Warnings:

When specific weather warnings—such as Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Tornado Warnings, Flash Flood Warnings, Snow Squall Warnings, or Dust Storm Warnings—are issued for the broadcast area, WXJ37 will:

• Broadcast the warning immediately using EAS to ensure you're alerted as soon as possible.
• After the warning the station then follows with the Station ID.
• Repeat the warning message to provide full details, including affected areas, the nature of the threat, and any recommended actions and updates. 

This cycle continues until the warning is lifted or expires, with all regular programming temporarily suspended to prioritize urgent weather information.
