Some TACN channels may use encryption from time to time, especially when dispatchers or responders need to talk about something sensitive. This is controlled by the radio system, and scanners are not able to listen to or decode encrypted traffic. Because of that, you may occasionally hear only part of a conversation, a transmission may suddenly cut off, or there may be a brief odd sound before the scanner mutes it. In most cases, the channel will return to normal once the encrypted conversation is finished.
