Feed Notes
This live audio feed is locally owned, operated, and maintained by a Blackstone resident, providing the community with access to Blackstone Police and Fire radio communications.
The feed is hosted on dedicated equipment located in Blackstone, Massachusetts, using a Raspberry Pi running RTLSDR-Airband and a Nooelec NESDR SMArt v5 software-defined radio (SDR) receiver.
Monitored Frequencies
-
Blackstone Police: 155.8725 MHz
-
Blackstone Fire: 159.3300 MHz
Equipment & Audio Quality
The system is designed for continuous operation, automatically scanning both frequencies and broadcasting active radio transmissions.
It features a temperature-compensated SDR receiver, optimized signal detection, digital audio filtering, dynamic audio compression, and 16 kbps MP3 encoding at 22.05 kHz to provide clear, intelligible communications.
Dynamic channel identification automatically identifies the active Police or Fire frequency during transmissions, allowing listeners to distinguish between departments.
Reliability & Backup Power
Designed for 24/7 operation, the system is supported by an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that provides immediate battery backup during electrical interruptions, along with a whole-house backup generator for extended power outages.
Automated monitoring, stream connection checks, hardware watchdog protection, and recovery mechanisms help detect equipment or streaming interruptions and automatically restore service when possible.
While electrical power is backed up, the feed currently operates on a single internet connection without redundant internet failover. Internet service disruptions may temporarily interrupt streaming, even when backup power is available.
