Listen for which comm center units are talking to:
Southcom is NMSP's southern dispatch center, located in Las Cruces, and dispatching for all of the NMSP districts in range of this feed. This would likely indicate that an NMSP or Interop talkgroup is active.
NMSU is the dispatch center located on New Mexico State University campus, and is dispatching NMSU PD, Fire, Public Safety (security and parking)
Central is Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority (MVRDA) which is the 911 center which serves Dona Ana County and portions of surrounding counties. You may hear them on interop talkgroups or talking directly with other base stations. As more Dona Ana County/communities, and Las Cruces agencies move to this system, you will hear units talking to Central more often.
Listen for unit numbers:
NMSP uses 3 and 4 digit unit numbers where the first digit(s) indicate the district. 4xx units are Las Cruces district (Dona Ana and Sierra Counties), 8xx units are Alamogordo district (Lincoln and Otero counties), 11xx units are Socorro district (Socorro and Catron counties) 12xx units are Deming district (Luna, Hildago and Grant counties). You will also hear Game and Fish units with 2 digit numbers, and specialty NMSP units which are typically not assigned to a single district.
NMSU Police use 2 digit call signs. Public Safety units use 3 digit call signs, and usually identify as their specific division, such as parking or security. NMSU fire uses 3 digit call signs starting with 3xx for both officers (37x range) and apperatus (30x). Single firefighters also have call signs in 3xx range during events where they may be posted individually.
As county talkgroups get added, this will get updated.
UPDATES and CHANGES:
9-29 Alpha tags are added, looks like the 536 can put them out over the serial port as expected. May have to change them into a format that makes sense, but they seem to be working.
9-28 Database was updated to add interop talkgroups in use at the southern state fair, they will be left in place. Sites more then 19 miles away have been deleted from the system scan, which may affect scanner's ability to hear districts 11 and 12, however, the three sites in Dona Ana County should carry those TG's most of the time. This should clear up audio quality since the scanner will only lock up on sites closest to me.
Expected updates:
County talkgroups are added as they are identified. Looks like Sunland Park PD and Fire are testing talkgroups on this system, so they will get added on the next database update.
